Fighting Game Fundamentals edition by gootecks George Holguin Stephanie Lee Humor Entertainment eBooks

As a fighting game player for 8 years (and admittedly slightly biased Excellent Adventures fan), there is plenty of low and intermediate level that helps across all fighting games, as well as some advanced level concepts broken down into fairly easy concepts/processes. Gootecks just going to show how dedicated he is to the community. It took me an afternoon to read half of the book (along with DOING the exercises outlined in the book) and I already felt more consistent and confident in my play. After working on the second half, I feel like I gained a lot of technical knowledge that will help me.

Although buying SFV along with this book may seem like a hefty investment, it's definitely worth it and will help you gain a nice entryway into fighting games.

Fighting Game Fundamentals edition by gootecks George Holguin Stephanie Lee Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

Gooteck's approach is great! I found myself highlighting a lot of information in this book, plus he gives the reader great tips for practicing.
There's a lot of useful information here for both newcomers and veterans alike. Gootecks put a lot of work into this, going even as deep as recommending good hardware setups to enhance your experience. It's a great read and can certainly help you improve your game if you study it.
I'm trying to improve at Street Fighter V, so I picked this up after watching some of Gootecks's videos online. The book is pretty great! I not only have a better understanding of overall strategy and how to improve, but I now also understand how people actually come up with things like combo strings you'll find online. Overall, definitely worth five bucks.
Solid book for learning some of the thought processes involved in training yourself to get better at Street Fighter. You can find a lot of this information elsewhere online, but I really like Gootecks' writing style.
This book was a great way for a noob, like me, to begin developing my identity as a player. The overall presentation opens the doors to understanding the game on a scientific level which, in my opinion, could greatly benefit the new players that think jumping high kick into sweep is the end-all, be-all of the game.

Also, the approachability of the writing gives the reader encouragement to push forward and improve. He puts the emphasis on the individual improving and takes away some of the inherent intimidation one may feel picking up a new game or playing a fighting game for the first time. gootecks doesn't wait to challenge you at the top of a mountain; he writes like he's that guy in the trenches that sees a green soldier and pulls them aside to give them advise after their first firefight.
If you really want to understand the fundamentals of fighting games, this book will definitely help you get started on the correct path.

The book covers how to win, frame data, and the nature of fighting games. All these topics get explained in detail and are easy to understand thanks to the author.

Perhaps my only negative is the way it's written. As a book I found it was easy to understand, but the writing felt a bit lacking. It's a minor point and it's just personal preference, but you will definitely get what the author promises in the title and intro.

Gootecks knows his stuff, and more importantly, he knows how to communicate and educate that to someone else. If you read this and practice the fundamentals listed; you will certainly be able to improve for any fighting game, old or new. I'm always glad to see that the fgc (fighting game community) has people who actually care about helping others and assisting in bringing up the next generation of gamers.

Keep up the great work Gootecks!
